Plumbing is any network that carries fluids for various uses through a series of active or passive lines. Plumbing utilises numerous plumbing fixtures, valves, pipes, and other apparatuses for carrying liquids. Some of the most popular uses of plumbing are in the kitchen and the toilet. A bathroom involves several components such as sink, tub, shower, vanity, etc. Other parts involved in a bathroom plumbing system include pipes, faucets, fixtures, and valves.

Romans used aqueducts, ditches, aqua-mills, and storage pits for supplying water, food, and other liquid requirements. The Romans were the first to discover that boiling water could be transported over long distances. The Roman Empire was an important political and military power during the period of the Republic, and it gradually established control over other countries. One of the most important things the Roman Empire did be built excellent irrigation and drainage systems, which enabled them to develop great farming and commercial capacities. This was the main reason the Romans were able to carry trade routes across the Mediterranean Sea, bringing vast wealth to the Romans.

In the time of the Empire, plumbing evolved into an intricate system that included not only drinking water systems but also domestic plumbing, commercial plumbing, and drainage systems. The Romans developed an efficient irrigation system by means of canals, aqueducts, and waste outlets known as inabilities. The main aim of Roman plumbing was the construction of reliable potable water supply systems for domestic and commercial use. A typical Roman plumbing system consists of five main components:

cistern or mouth: this fixture carries liquid waste from the faucets directly into another faucet or drain. There is usually a separate pipe for each person who drinks, cooks, dries his/her hands, or lavishes the water. This is one of the first components of the plumbing system. In order to transfer liquid from the cistern to a destination, it is fitted with a siphon. Siphons are also fitted on top of the main pipes to bring water into apartments or houses.

Suction tubing: this device is made out of the same material used in making the plumbing pipes and is used to suck up water from the sewer and deliver it into another faucet or outlet. This main article in a plumbing system is usually called a closed-end or single-ended pipe. Normally, a two-way pipe system has a series of suction pipes attached to a single water pipe. These pipes are usually made of rubber, plastic, or metal to make sure they can withstand the force of a strong water jet.

Wall fixtures: this is a modern term that refers to any fixture that’s installed in a wall. Common examples of these fixtures are ceiling fixtures like chandeliers and table lamps. Wall tiles are also used as wall fixtures. Plumbers usually install these fixtures when the plumbing system is being designed or built.
